 Hsinchu City has been one of the most important commercial centers in northern Taiwan. The Hsinchu Science Park and other institutes attract high quality labor forces and stimulate the growth of consuming and commercial markets. The establishment of various shops, large shopping centers, retail markets, and department stores accelerate the development of service industry. By June 2004, the total number of all kinds and sorts of companies (including proprietor and corporation) has reached more than 35,000.
