With the booming market of semiconductor worldwide in 2004, the business volume of Hsinchu Science Park created a new record, which was NT$ 185,900,000,000 and increased 27% more than the business volume of last year. The business volume of the six main industries was all gone up. For example, P recision Machinery industry grew remarkably up to 60%; Photoelectron industry and B iotechnology industry grew up to 39%; Integrated Circuit industry rose to 32%, Computer and Peripheral industry, and Communication industry respectively grew up to 3% and 10%.

By the end of December in 2004, there were 384 high-tech factories in Hsinchu Science Park and 115,477 employees, which respectively grew up to 4% and 13% compared to the factories and employees at the same season of last year. There were 48 new corporations set up last year and the permitted capital was NT$ 43.03 billion which rose to 58% compared to the permitted capital of last year. In addition, there were 55 factories applying for increasing capital and the permitted capital was NT$ 72 billion. The total of new investment and increasing capital were NT$ 115.03 billion which grew up to 8% if compared to the money of new investment and increasing capital of last year. By the end of December in 2004, the factories of Hsinchu Science Park actually received capital of NT$ 1.75 zillion which add 9% more than last year.



The business volume of Integrated Circuit industry in 2004 was NT$ 744.1 billion which occupied 68.5% of the total business volume of Hsinchu Science Park and add 32% more if compared to the business volume of last year. The business volume of Computer and Peripheral industry was NT$ 138.2 billion which held 12.7 % of the turnover in Hsinchu Science Park and grew up to 3% if compared to the turnover of last year. The business volume of P hotoelectron industry was NT$ 131.3 billion which took 12.1 % of the total business volume of Hsinchu Science Park and grew up to 39%. The business volume of C ommunication industry was NT$ 60.5 billion which held 5.6 % of the total business volume of Hsinchu Science Park and grew up to 10%. The business volume of P recision Machinery industry was NT$ 9.2 billion which held 0.9 % of the total business volume of Hsinchu Science Park and grew up to 60%. The business volume of B iotechnoloy industry was NT$ 2.5 billion which took 0.2 % of the total business volume of Hsinchu Science Park and grew up to 39% if compared to the business volume of last year.

Labor Force


As to the aspect of the productive forces of year 2004 in the six main industries, each perso n's output value was NT$ 9.4 million which grew 12% as compared to the value of year 2003. The average output value of each person in I ntegrated Circuit industry was NT$ 11.19 million, which was ranked the highest in the six main industries. The average output value of each person was in order as follows: C omputer and Peripheral industry had NT$ 9.69 million which was ranked the second one. Communication industry had NT$ 8.34 million which was ranked the third one. P recision Machinery industry had NT$ 6.05 million which was ranked the fourth one. P hotoelectron industry had NT$ 5.26 million which was the fifth one and Biotechnology industry had NT$ 2.48 million which was the sixth one .

Import & Export Trade

In 2004, the accumulated amount of import & export trade in Hsinchu Science Park was NT$ 888.6 billion which grew 45% as compared to the amount of year 2003. The amount of export trade was NT$ 495.8 billion which took 46% of the business volume of Hsinchu Science Park . The amount of import trade was NT$ 392.8 billion. The amounts of export and import trade grew 27% and 77% respectively as compared to the amount of year 2003. In addition, according to the statistics with respect to the structure of main export & import markets in Hsinchu Science Park , the first five countries of export trade and their proportion were in order as follows: China (20%), Hong Kong (20%), Japan (12%), America (11%) and Korea (9%). The countries which import goods from were Japan and America and their amounts of import trade in 2004 were 37% and 20%, respectively, of the total amount. The other importing countries were in order as the following: Singapore (8%), Hong Kong (7%) and Korea (3%).
